Acceptable Use Policy
Version 1.0 · Last updated 10 Oct 2026
This policy sets out what websites I build and host can and can't be used for. It applies to you, and to anyone you let use your website or its admin features. It forms part of my Terms of Service.
1.The short version
Use your website for lawful purposes, don't harm anyone, and don't put anything on it that you don't have the right to use.
2.Content you must not publish
Your website must not contain, link to or promote anything that:
- is illegal in the UK, or encourages or helps someone break the law;
- infringes anyone's copyright, trade marks or other rights, such as photos or text you don't have permission to use;
- is defamatory, threatening, harassing, or invades someone's privacy;
- promotes hatred or violence against people because of their race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age or any other protected characteristic;
- is sexually explicit, or sexualises children in any way;
- promotes terrorism or violent extremism;
- is deliberately false or misleading, including fake reviews, misleading prices or false claims about products or services;
- sells or promotes illegal goods or services, such as illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods or stolen data.
3.Things you must not do
You must not use your website, or my services, to:
- send spam or unsolicited marketing, or collect email addresses for that purpose;
- distribute viruses, malware or anything designed to harm computers or data;
- carry out phishing, scams or fraud, or pretend to be someone else;
- try to gain unauthorised access to my systems, other clients' websites, or anyone else's systems;
- overload or disrupt my services or other people's, for example with automated traffic or attacks;
- collect or use personal data in a way that breaks data protection law, such as without a lawful basis or a privacy notice;
- get around any limits or security measures, including sharing your portal sign-in or two-step sign-in with someone else.
4.Your responsibility for others
If you let other people use your website's admin features, add content or post on it (for example, through comments or reviews), you're responsible for making sure what they do follows this policy too. If your website lets the public post content, you should check it and remove anything that breaks this policy.
5.What happens if this policy is broken
If I believe your website breaks this policy, I may:
- ask you to remove or change the content;
- remove the content myself, if it's urgent or illegal;
- suspend your website;
- end our agreement, as set out in my Terms of Service;
- report illegal activity to the police or other authorities, and cooperate with them.
Where I can, I'll contact you first and give you a reasonable chance to put things right. If the content is clearly illegal or could cause serious harm, I may act straight away and tell you afterwards.
6.Reporting a problem
If you see a website I host that you think breaks this policy, please email support@charlieswebsites.co.uk with the web address and what the problem is. I'll look into every report.
If you have questions about this policy, contact support@charlieswebsites.co.uk.
